Allergic Reactions in babies
While
most parents try to avoid exposing their little ones to anything
that may harm them in any way, you can’t always know what
your baby is allergic to. In fact, nearly everyone finds out the
hard way that their baby is allergic to something—by experiencing
the allergic reaction. The best ways to avoid severe allergic reactions
in babies is to limit the amount of any new thing introduced at
first.
Babies can be allergic to a variety of things, including certain
foods, soaps, the materials in diapers, etc. This is why it can
be so difficult to figure out what may be causing an allergic reaction
in your baby. But, the key to removing the offending product or
food is to be able to quickly figure out what it is. If you are
using a new laundry detergent for clothes, wait at least a few days
before you introduce a new food to your baby or new bath soap. This
way you will know exactly what the new factor was that caused your
baby’s allergic reaction. Another important point is to not
introduce more than one new food at a time to your baby. One a day
is the best option, because allergic reactions will usually occur
within hours or minutes of eating.
Allergic reactions in babies can vary greatly, and they can include
everything from a mild or severe skin rash to difficulty breathing.
If it is just a rash, when you remove the item, the rash will usually
go away within a day. Anytime this doesn’t happen or your
baby has problems breathing or is vomiting after eating or taking
a medication, call your doctor immediately.
