Birthday Parties for Toddlers

Birthday Parties for Toddlers
Every
toddler loves Birthday’s, especially their own! Many parents
want to know just how to throw a great birthday party for their
toddler.
The first thing to do is think of who you want
to invite to the party. Will it be just relatives? Will you invite
friends/neighbors with toddlers? Or a combination of the two? Really
make a guest list so you can visually see how many people are invited
and what the ages of those people will be.
Once you have the number and identities of the
guests figured out decide where to have the birthday party. Consider
the time of year, and activities your toddler likes to do. Some
ideas for party locations include:
Backyard
Neighborhood Pool
Park
Your home, or someone elses
Petting Zoo
Children’s Museum
Ballet/Gymnastics Center
Skating Rink
Some of the above locations provide birthday parties
that include food and favors, others do not. Find out just what
you will need to supply. If you are doing an afternoon party decide
whether or not you want to serve lunch. If you’re not providing
lunch you may note that on your invitations so parents can plan
on feeding their toddlers beforehand.
Keep the party reasonable in length. Remember
that toddlers have a fairly short attention span, so keeping the
activity about 30 minutes will leave you 30 or 40 minutes for cutting
the cake and opening presents. The whole party should last about
1 ½ hours. Depending on how well you know your guests the
toddlers might play together for a while after the party while the
parents talk, but that’s an option that should flow naturally
and people should feel comfortable to leave when they need to so
don’t have a big gap between the planned activity and cutting
the cake, get the essentials in within an allotted period of time.
Birthday parties should be fun for EVERYONE. Don’t
let yourself get overwhelmed. Keep the party list small and manageable.
If you don’t have a lot of time to plan the party have it
at a location that does most of the planning for you. Your little
one will have a better time if mommy and daddy are relaxed than
if they are stressed and yelling!
Each year is an achievement for your toddler,
with new and exciting things that lay ahead for her. Taking time
at the end of the day to congratulate your little one in private
will build a memory that nothing can replace.
