Bonding with your baby
Bonding
with your baby is a very important part of parenting. For some women,
this happens during pregnancy. They have this baby’s life
so close to their heart that it is impossible for them to not bond
with it. For other mothers, it happens at birth. And for others,
it takes even longer. Dads, on the other hand, have a harder time
than most mothers when it comes to bonding with their new baby.
This isn’t the dad’s fault, and it isn’t true
with all men, but when it does happen, it is understandable.
Dads do not experience carrying the baby inside them, and they do
not go through the excruciatingly painful effort of bringing the
baby into the world. For many dads, though, they do experience bonding
with their baby the first time they see him or the first time they
hold him. If a parent of a baby does not experience the often talked
about bonding, they will sometimes feel guilty that they aren’t
feeling what they should. Any parent who doesn’t experience
this should not feel guilty about it, though. The bond is there
because you created this baby. You can make this bond stronger with
every feeding, every playtime, and every kiss. You do not have to
experience some magical moment of bonding to really be connected
with, and feel love for, your child.
