When Your Baby Starts Crawling
Babies
can start crawling anywhere from four or five months old all the
way up to a year old or so. Some babies actually never really even
crawl. They may do what is known as the “army-crawl”
where they lay out and use their forearms to slide themselves forward,
or another method of mobility besides actual crawling.
How soon a baby crawls, or how late, has no bearing on how smart
or how well-developed your baby is. Unfortunately, too many parents
compare their baby’s abilities to other babies their age,
and this can make parents feel that their baby isn’t as smart
or as developed as others. This is why it is important to know that
what age your baby crawls or walks has no bearing on this.
If you want your baby to crawl sooner, however, you can help this
along by working with your baby. Helping your baby begin to crawl
can consist of placing their knees up under their body and placing
your hands against their feet. This will give them something to
push off of. If you place a toy in front of your baby, once he realizes
that making these movements gets him to the toy, it will encourage
him to try even more.
