Baby Skin care
When
a baby is first born, their skin is ultra sensitive. It has been
kept wet for so long that the exposure to the air can often cause
peeling and drying. Most hospitals will even give you a small tube
of lotion to take with you to apply to your baby’s skin to
help it stay less dry. The places babies tend to peel most often
are on the feet and the hands, especially on the heels and between
the toes and fingers. If you do not keep lotion on baby’s
skin, they can actually become so dry that they can crack and be
painful for your baby.
This is why, when your baby is a newborn, it is best to not just
use baby lotion, instead opting for a more protective type. As your
baby begins to get older, her skin will adjust to the air around
it and she will not be as dry. It is still a good idea at this point
to apply lotion to your baby’s skin daily, but you can begin
using baby lotion or other lotions. When putting lotion on your
baby, if you want to really hold the moisture in, you should put
it on immediately after a bath, possibly even while her skin is
still damp. This can help hold the moisture in her skin and keep
it more healthy and prevent drying a lot better.
