Sleeping on Your Back

Sleeping on Your Back while Pregnant
Getting
a good night sleep when you are pregnant can be tricky. With a big
tummy and pressure everywhere, it is very hard to find a comfortable
position. During the beginning stages of pregnancy, sleep position
is not much of an issue. But, as the baby continues to grow, there
are really only two positions that are safe for a pregnant woman
to sleep: upright or on her side.
The problems with sleeping on your stomach are
pretty obvious, but many are confused as to why they cannot sleep
on their back. While it may seem comfy, the weight of your enlarged
uterus can actually pose serious risk to you if you sleep on your
back while pregnant. The pressure of the uterus on your diaphragm
can interfere with your breathing. Another problem with sleeping
on your back is that your uterus also puts a lot of pressure on
your aorta, which is a major blood vessel.
