Talking

When your baby starts talking
While
all babies will begin to talk at their own pace, you can help the
process along by working with your baby from the day he is born.
Even when your baby is a newborn, you can talk to him. Many times,
you will make baby noises at your baby, and this is always a good
idea since newborns respond well to high-pitched voices. But, it
doesn’t hurt to also talk to him as you would an adult. You
can actually have conversations with your baby from the time he
is first born. While he will obviously not participate in the conversation,
and it may feel kind of strange at first, it is an excellent way
to communicate with your baby.
When you talk to your baby, even before he can understand what you
are saying, you may notice that he is studying you. Babies watch
their parents very closely and many times you will see your baby
staring at your mouth as you speak. By the time your baby is a few
months old, he will likely try to mimic your mouth movements. When
he discovers how to make the noises, he will slowly start forming
his mouth in different ways to try to form words. These words will
start out as one-syllable words such as “goo” and “maa,”
but they will slowly turn into actual words.
Then, before you know it, your baby will be calling your name, saying
“bye” and a variety of other words. By the time a baby
is a year old, they will usually know at least a few words that
they repeat on a daily basis. If you continue talking to your baby,
he will begin saying more and more everyday.
