Tantrums

Tantrums
Toddlers
and tantrums: the two words go hand in hand. There is one simple
reason that toddlers throw tantrums, regardless of what the situation
is at hand: they want to get their way. Whether it’s getting
a toy in the store, eating candy, putting on what clothes they want
to wear, or anything else that might cause a tantrum, the ultimate
reason a toddler will have a temper tantrum is because they want
something or they want to do something. The more you resist whatever
it is your little one desires, the more fierce the tantrum may become.
There are a variety of ways to deal with tantrums, and child psychologists
have been debating this topic for years. Ultimately, it is up to
the parent to try out every method possible, and see which one works
best. Some parents prefer to punish for tantrums to teach the lesson
that if the toddler acts bad, then there are consequences. Some
parents prefer the method of ignoring the tantrum. This method is
based on the psychologists’ belief that any attention to a
tantrum is bad, because it is giving the toddler attention, and
to toddlers, often bad attention is better than no attention.
Whatever you decide to do about your toddler’s temper tantrums,
know that it is usually a phase that is outgrown by the time they
start school (most will outgrow it way before this, but there are
some that don’t).
