When Babies Start Walking
Babies
can start walking at almost any time, but the average age is around
one year. It is important for parents to not worry about their little
one if they aren’t walking at the same time as every other
baby they know. Some babies walk as early as 8 or 9 months, while
some do not walk until they are 14 to 16 months old. There can be
a variety of reasons that a baby will walk early or late and neither
is a reflection on the parent or the baby’s intelligence.
You can help your baby walk a little earlier, however, by working
with him on a regular basis. Hold his hands and let him walk around
the room as early as 6 or 7 months old, and continue as he gets
older. This does not guarantee that he will walk early, but it can
help. Another way to help baby walk earlier is to not carry him
as often. If he is forced to have to get somewhere on his own, he
will figure out a way to do so. Sometimes, however, this may mean
that he will simply get really fast at crawling.
Since there is no true way to ensure that your baby will walk at
an early age, and since the age that your baby walks really doesn’t
have any significance in determining anything about your baby’s
physical or mental abilities, it is really something that parents
should not worry about too much. It is also important for parents
to not compare their baby to other babies who are walking or not
walking.
