Candy and Babies

Obviously
the best tactic when it comes to candy and babies is to not ever
start the habit. Unfortunately, though, this can prove to be a very
difficult task. Since all stores have candy at the checkout, and
babies and toddlers see other little ones eating candy, they will
inevitably want some. Once a baby has some teeth, there are many
options for candy that they can eat. Likely it will start with suckers
that you take away before they become small, and it can move up
to small candy pieces, such as M&M’s and Skittles.
There are a few very important points when allowing
your baby or toddler to have candy:
- Always brush their teeth immediately after the candy.
- Be aware of the sugar intake—it helps to not allow any
near bed or nap time, as well as to not allow too much in general.
- Always watch your baby closely while they have candy, even
if it seems to be safe for them to eat it.
Following these guidelines when allowing your
little one candy can help prevent the bad effects that candy can
often have.
