While
grandparents have a tendency to always think they know the best
method for everything involving your baby, they can sometimes be
irritating to parents. Always hearing what you should be doing instead
of what you are doing (especially when you feel the advice is incorrect)
can be quite bothersome. There are a few ways to make this less
of an issue, though.
One of the best ways to limit your baby’s
grandparent’s criticisms of your parenting is to allow them
to have their own quality time with baby. By doing this, the grandparent
is allowed to make the decisions regarding baby’s care for
a short time, which may lead them to be less intrusive during inappropriate
times.
Another way to avoid these issues is to simply
allow the grandparent to speak his or her mind and simply do things
the way you prefer. There is no need for discussion, and most often
the grandparent won’t even know what method you decided to
choose in the end.
One of the best ways to not let grandparent interference
bother you as a parent is to realize that they are simply trying
to offer advice to help make things easier for you. Viewing it this
way, instead of as the criticism it may seem to be, can help ease
any tensions the overbearing grandparent may cause.
