Naps
are a regular part of a baby’s life. In the beginning, a newborn
will nap more than he is awake. As the baby gets older, he will
nap less and less often. Usually, by the time a baby is 6 months
old, they will take three naps a day. By the time they hit the one-year
mark, a baby will usually only need two naps a day—one mid-morning
and one early-evening or late-afternoon. Then, as they get a little
older, and usually before they are two, little ones tend to start
taking one long nap a day.
To keep your baby happy and to make everything
a little less stressful, it is a great idea to plan all activities
and outings around nap time. Otherwise, you could end up sitting
in the doctor’s office waiting room or at the park with a
cranky, crying baby. Scheduling all activities around routine nap
times can make everyday life a lot easier for parents as well as
babies.
