When
you wake up with an itchy throat and achy bones and joints it’s
a sure sign that you’re coming down with a cold or flu. Normally
you would reach for the Echinacea to ward off such a virus, but
you think twice when you’re pregnant. Is Echinacea actually
safe for pregnant women?
Although some doctors advise against the use of
any herbal supplements during pregnancy, recent studies show that
there is no correlation between birth defects and the use of Echinacea.
Most doctors will agree that if you do use the herb, it should not
be used for extended periods of time.
Echinacea has been used for centuries to treat
upper respiratory infections and is believed to boost the immune
system. If you have had success with it before, you will most likely
continue to have success with it during your pregnancy. It is, however,
always a good idea to discuss any medications, herbal or otherwise,
with your doctor.
