When
picking wallpaper for your baby’s room, you may be surprised
at the amount of choices you will find. There are a variety
of types and styles to choose from, and there are a variety
of ways to use the wallpaper.
Do you want a color scheme or themes? There are a variety
of ways to go when it comes to deciding this, and you may
choose to pick a specific color for your wallpaper or you
may want it to be designed. The decision should be made based
on a couple of things. If you have ducks (with blue, yellow
and white as the main colors) as a theme for your baby’s
room, you may be debating between a colored wallpaper or a
wallpaper covered in little ducks. If you will have many pictures
on the wall of ducks, or a variety of other items that have
ducks, you may want to choose a yellow or even a yellow and
blue striped wallpaper instead of one with ducks on it.
The key to making this decision is that you don’t want
the room to be too busy. If you really like a particular wallpaper
covered in your theme, but that seems like it would just be
too much, you could always choose to get that wallpaper in
a border for the top or middle of the room, and have the rest
of the room in a solid-colored wallpaper or painted.
Another way to show a favorite baby wallpaper without making
the room seem too full of the theme is to do wallpaper halfway
up or halfway down the wall. By doing this, you get to use
the wallpaper of your choice, but you also balance it out
with a solid color. When doing this (it’s called a wainscot),
you can use a small piece of wood trim all along the wall
where the wallpaper and paint meet so that no one can see
the lines.
It is important to make sure that you put the wallpaper on
properly if you do it yourself. The little baby that you are
decorating the room for will be crawling in no time, walking
shortly thereafter, and getting into everything the whole
time. If there is a bubble or tear in the wallpaper at all
within your little one’s reach, he or she will definitely
notice it and be intrigued. This could lead to disaster, and
wallpaper is not an easy thing to remove or cover up—especially
if it is torn or ripped.
Since wallpaper is difficult to remove or paint over (this
often looks horrible), it is good to pick a theme that you
think will last a long time. Many times, people find that,
after wallpapering a room, they are forced to forever wallpaper
over the original if they want to change colors or themes.
So, if you don’t want to have to do that, you will want
to make sure that the wallpaper is one that could go with
another theme if necessary (this is another reason you might
want to stick with colors instead of pictures on wallpaper).
Once you have decided what type of wallpaper you want (or
think you want), you can contact local companies that wallpaper,
or you can visit your local home improvement store to find
one you like. Many paint stores also have a variety of baby
wallpapers to choose from, as well.
