Childhood
obesity is a big concern these days. With all of the fast
food and junk food that is so readily available, the weight
and health issues of our youngsters is no surprise. Toddlers
need lots of good food to eat and not just to keep them thin.
Their little bodies are growing so fast and they are so active
that they need all of the essential nutrients to help them
develop. When feeding your children, keep the food pyramid
in mind and you are sure to make wise choices. Providing your
little ones with healthy toddler snacks will keep them healthy
and fit and will help them to develop good eating habits.
Fruits and vegetables are some of the most important foods
we can eat and yet many in our society rarely eat their daily
allotment. Encourage a love of these nutrient rich foods by
offering them to your toddler often. Fruits and vegetables
are filled with vitamins, fiber and disease-fighting antioxidants.
They make yummy snacks too. Fruit is a delicious treat that
makes for a sweet replacement of other sweets that are not
so good for your child. Vegetable sticks like carrots, broccoli
flowers and celery are great with a dip or by themselves.
Ants on a log are a fun way to get your little ones to eat
celery. Fill the celery stick with peanut butter, cream cheese
or hummus and then top it off with raisins. Even if your toddler
only eats the filling, she will still be getting a healthy
snack.
Another healthy snack that is often neglected in today’s
fast-paced society is calcium. Calcium is necessary for strong
bones to carry your little one through all of his activity
and play. It also helps in the development of healthy teeth.
Many of the cereal today and even some of the bread is fortified
with calcium to help your child to get enough of it. Yummy
snacks that your toddler will love in this food group include
cheese sticks, yogurt and even frozen yogurt for a delicious
alternative to ice cream.
With a little bit of planning you can have a refrigerator
and pantry filled with healthy toddler snacks for your little
one to munch on throughout the day. Many of the most healthy
and delicious snacks are sold ready-to-eat and require little
to no preparation. All you have to do to an apple, for example,
to have a delicious snack is cut it up… and you don’t
even have to do that. There is a simple recipe below for healthy,
delicious smoothies if you are looking for a healthy snack
you can put your love into.
