At
the toddler stage, children are exploring their new- found
walking abilities. They are learning about talking and counting
and interacting with others, all by imitating the adults around
them. When you are looking for summer activities for toddlers,
keep things simple and appropriate for their level. In each
experience they are learning new things: new words, actions,
gestures and games.
The simplest and sometimes the most enjoyable summer activities
for toddlers are those that take little effort and are nearby.
Most toddlers don’t enjoy spending large amounts of
time in the car, so scout out the local places. Toddlers love
to go for walks. You may need to bring the stroller along
just in case. Make sure to lather on the sunscreen and wear
protective clothing!
It’s also fun to visit local parks. Your child will
enjoy experimenting with his new coordination abilities on
the playground equipment. Stay with him or her as he explores,
but also let him take initiative to play with others and climb!
Swinging and going down the slide are popular attractions
for little tikes at this age! This may be a great way for
the both of you to make new friends.
Join a playgroup! These are especially helpful for Moms (or
Dads!) who stay at home. Playgroups are generally a simple
gathering of parents and their children for an hour or two
a week. Both the children and the adults develop relationships
and will begin to look forward to this weekly routine! Summer
activities for toddlers are also a lot easier to carry out
in a group, because you can hold the playgroups at each other’s
homes, and pool ideas of fun places to go on outings!
Arts and crafts are always a fun activity any time of year.
Toddlers love paint, clay and any type of coloring.
Summer activities for toddlers abound, and you have the outdoors
at your disposal during this sunny season! Just don’t
forget the sunscreen, water bottles and snacks when you go
on outings.
If you are planning a vacation, bring plenty of toys for
the car or plane trip. You will also want to include a few
books for bedtime!
