Does your pregnancy seem like it is filled with never ending
dos and don’ts? If it’s not the doctor telling
you what to do, it’s your mother telling you what not
to do or it’s your best friend, a person at the grocery
store or a magazine article. There are probably times that
you wonder if anything is safe for you when you are pregnant,
including the things that simplify your life like the microwave
oven.
Some people may tell you to avoid using the microwave oven
when you are pregnant because microwave emissions have been
linked to fertility problems in men. But the men studied had
heavy exposure on a daily basis. And while there have been
no studies that show microwave emissions to be harmful or
safe for a fetus, negative effects are impossible from the
ordinary day to day use of a microwave oven. Ronald P. Jensh,
a professor of pathology, anatomy, and cell biology at the
Jefferson Medical College, said, of microwave ovens, that
“it is virtually impossible for them to leak radiation.”
They are built with many safeguards. The food that you cook
in your microwave is likely to be more harmful than your microwave
oven is. And even that, is probably nothing to worry over
either.
