Looking for some great autumn activities for toddlers? Here
at Baby Mine Store, we have some favorites that will keep
you and your child busy during those breezy fall days!
Family Portraits
This is a fun way both for your child to develop hand coordination
by wielding large crayons and to learn more about some important
people in his or her life.
Materials:
- A large photograph of your family, grandparents, or a
close friend
- Large piece of cardboard of thick paper
- Glue stick
- Large crayons
- Stickers
What to do:
Invite your toddler to draw designs on the paper with crayon.
He can also add stickers to his special frame. He might find
it easier to work on the floor. Help your toddler glue the
photograph in the middle of the paper and tap it into place.
Hang your family portrait in a place you choose with your
child. These large portraits make wonderful presents for special
people.
Turkey Parade!
Toddlers love to move around and keep busy, and this is one
of the autumn activities for toddlers that both of you will
get a kick out of! Use masking tape to create turkey footprints
along the floor throughout the house or room. Then play some
music and hop around and gobble, following the footprints,
until you stop the music. Your child will imitate the noises
and actions you make, so be the best turkey you can be! Keep
turning on and off the music, playing the turkey parade, as
long as his or her interest lasts.
Nature Bracelet
This is a simple and fun activity that incorporates a nice
nature walk with your child in the fresh outdoors!
Materials: scotch tape and some warm clothes
What to do: Wrap a piece of tape comfortably around your
toddler’s wrist, sticky side out. Talk to him or her
while you do so, telling all about the fun things he can choose
to put on his nature bracelet. You can do the same with your
own wrist. After bundling up adequately, head outside and
make simple observations of the things you see, and ask about
the colors of each thing, if you are working on colors with
your child or if he or she has already mastered them. Together,
pick out pretty leaves and other interesting things and stick
them to the taped bracelet. When you get home, you can cut
the bracelets off and put them on the fridge or a bulletin
board.
Shadow Tracing
If your child can stay still long enough, this is a funny
autumn activity for a sunny day!
Materials: Chalk
What to do: Go outside with your child on a sunny day. If
your child will stand still long enough, trace his shadow
on the sidewalk or driveway. Have him change positions, then
trace his shadow again. Make several tracings, then see if
your child can fit his shadow back inside the tracings.
For a fun alternative, trace his shadow on a big sheet of
newsprint or other paper. Let him finger-paint his shadow
or color it with crayons or markers.
