When planning a birthday celebration for your toddler, the
best way to go is with a theme. Themed birthday parties for
toddlers are as fun to attend as they are to plan. You will
have a blast preparing for the special day and all of your
guests will be anxiously waiting to be invited to another
party. Below you will find several ideas for themes that are
appropriate for the youngest of children. Choose one of them
or use the ideas to spur on your own creativity.
Little toddler girls will love a princess party. Have the
birthday girl come to the party dressed in her princess attire.
Many department and toy stores sell playtime dress-up clothes
for little girls. This is the perfect place to get a princess
outfit for your little one. She is sure to get many more uses
out of the special attire and she will love being in the spotlight
on her special day. For party invitations, you could make
sparkly slippers in the shape of a high-heel shoe. All you
need is construction paper, glitter and glue. You could make
a sock insert with all of the party information printed on
it. When the guests arrive give them each a piece of pretend
costume jewelry. Then you can play princess-inspired games.
Kiss the toad is a variation of pin the tail on the donkey.
Instead of a donkey, of course, you have a toad. Instead of
tails, you would use lip shaped paper. The guest will have
so much fun that they won’t want to leave. But every
party must come to an end. When yours does, send each guest
home with a tiara, candy rings or pretty stickers for a memorable
treat these little guests won’t soon forget.
Another fun idea for toddler parties is a farm theme. Invite
all of the little guests with a barn-shaped invitation. Create
flaps for the barn doors that open up to all of the party
information. As each guest arrives, greet them in your farmer
attire (overalls) and dress each child up as a farm animal.
Face paints and animal noses should do the job. Let these
little animals play classic farm games such as pin the tail
on the donkey and duck-duck goose. Another fun farm game is
prizes in a haystack. Hide some candy pieces in a stack of
hay and let the toddlers dig through it to find their treasure.
Send the children home with plastic farm animals or little
toy tractors and trucks for a memorable and appropriate party
favors.
All toddlers love stories. A story-telling festival is a fantastic
idea for a toddler party. You will need some extra adult help
for this one. Have 3 or 4 adults be in charge of a booth.
Each booth will tell one short story. (Toddlers are not known
to have long attention spans.) Divide the guests into groups
and have them visit the separate story booths. Each story
teller could be dressed up to match their story. Finish up
with a face-painting booth. Fun party favors could include
inexpensive picture books.
Planning themed birthday parties for toddlers is a lot of
fun. Carrying them out is even more fun. Just make sure to
prepare ahead of time. It’s hard to find things that
go with your theme at the last minute. But with a little preparation
and a lot of creativity, you can a plan a party that everyone
will remember.
