Child Protective Services hopes someone will come
forward to identify a baby abandoned over the weekend at a northeast
Harris County apartment complex, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
The 7-pound, full-term baby girl was found Saturday morning on
the floor of the mailroom at the Haverstock Hill Apartments in the
5600 block of Aldine Bender Road near Lee Road. She was wearing
a pink hat and was wrapped in a pink and white checkered blanket.
The baby, who does not yet have a name, was released from the hospital
Wednesday.
Child Protective Services took custody of the newborn. She is living
with a foster family until an adoptive family is found.
"She likes to be cuddled. She is a good baby. She likes to
be held and she has already determined the way she likes to be held,"
said Gwen Carter, with CPS. "If this baby bears a strong resemblance
to someone -- if you've seen someone that has been pregnant and
all of a sudden is not pregnant any longer, if you know of a situation
where someone has been pregnant and has had a very difficult time,
please contact us so that we can follow up."
Anyone with information about the baby is asked to call CPS at
(281) 847-7065.
Authorities said the newborn's mother could have left the baby
at a fire station down the road under protection of the Baby Moses
Law, which helps mothers safely get rid of unwanted children. Because
the measure was not used, the mother could be prosecuted.
Women considering abandoning babies should call the Child Protective
Services hot line at (877) 904-SAVE.
