It's is a combination of resources and staff who focus on patient
families.
Memorial Health is the first hospital in Georgia to host the program.
Dr. Linda Sacks says, "It's a very high-tech. Place. It is
very frightening. The babies are very sick. Sometimes the staff
can lose sight of the fact that this baby actually belongs to somebody,
belongs to a mother, a father, a set of grandparents, maybe some
siblings. This program is going to help the professional staff learn
to deal with that."
The program is funded with a 3 year grant from the March of Dimes,
which Memorial Health is matching.
The hospital is using the money to hire a Neonatal Family Support
Coordinator.
They will also have books and videos for parents and special materials
for the growing number of Spanish speaking families.
